The Immortal King

So what you probably don't know is that both Mortaki and Mordecai are characters with their own stories. Those stories are not currently related in anyway and Mortaki's probably won't be shared anytime soon. But Mordecai's? This one is theirs.

The idea is this: Mordecai is the only known human with any magic power. (That's why they're called the wizard.) At some point, seven guardians of a long abandoned, long forgotten realm decide that he's the person they want to see bring it back to its former glory. So he does.

The story mostly revolves around his evolving relationship with the guardians, who he doesn't meet all at once. And to my mild embarrassment, there are some harem elements to it. Mostly I like and want a complicated courtship process and that's how it ended up.

As of currently, I'm trying to practice "carrier bag" writing and thus want to avoid big, overarching conflicts/"big bads" and I'd like to avoid a "Great Men's History" type of story. This means not having anyone "out to get" our main cast and moving the focus away from how great and amazing Mordecai is (bc they really aren't tbh) and instead highlighting the conditions and the people that allow him to succeed.

With these constraints, I'm finding myself at a bit of a loss in terms of what direction I want to take the story in, so not a lot of writing has actually been done, though I have done quite a bit of worldbuildiing. I consider it an excellent challenge beause it's taking a somewhat corny/trope-y idea that came to me in a dream (literally lol) and it's applying principles that I want use in all my writing. It creates a low pressure environment to experiment and figure out how to apply these kind of off-beat ideas to more serious projects.
