- a/b/o universe (bc I said so; aka I think too much about how secondary genders would work if they were real a la history and evolution) + harry is an alpha: smells like a forest fire & ozone(lightning); short and kinda skinny, seeker build (bottom heavy) + theodore is a beta: sharp and clean scent, similar to pinesol. has deeper notes of moss and fungi; tall and broad in the shoulders, fluffy brown hair, very quiet typically + tom is an omega: smells like freshly baked artisan bread and honey; tall (but shorter than theo) and thin, should def eat more + intersex male omegas and female alphas + typical alpha behavior - have strong instinct to provide and protect; strong need to prove themselves (provide - food, comfort, gifts; protect - children, omegas (in general), mates (or at least anyone considered a mate) - stronger, overwhelming scents (scent dampening spells/potions/patches necessary in polite company) - heightened hearing (just a little bit; barely noticeable in most situations) - unknown alphas tend to make them feel suffocated or insecure (it's the scents. like you wouldn't like axe body spray in your face all the time either) - typically bigger, but like... not as much as common sterotyping suggests - no actual instinct to be domineering; that's just a sterotype and an excuse and you're a dick. - usually end up in leadership or entrepreneur roles bc of made up rules about society but not actually naturally suited to leadership or anything - historically they were the breadwinners/hunters in a household/community (they go out, they get food/make money, they bring it home for the family/tribe) + typical beta behavior - strong sense of smell (can pick up emotions pretty easily) - subtle scents of their own, sometimes practicaly nonexistent - have peacekeeping instincts - usually end up in service roles (secertaries, food/retail workers, doctors/nurses, anything working with the public) bc they are genuinely best suited to dealing with other people (there are always exceptions though) - VERY FUCKING TERRITORIAL, esp when mated - historically they protected and maintained the home (gathering materials near tribe [i.e. foraging, gathering wood, tanning leather, etc.], talking with people coming to trade, doing repairs, mowing the lawn, etc.) + typical omega behavior - scents usually sweet, floral, or otherwise rich smelling (they oftentimes smell like food) - typically very particular (as in things need to be a certain way; don't like having their things touched or messed with. usually have a system for doing/organizing things) - most vicious presentation when threatened; very sweet when feeling safe - also territorial, but not as much as betas (as in, sharing is no issue unless feeling threatened) - most often end in homemaker or caretaker roles (housewives, teachers, nursing home workers, etc), which is kind of hit or miss in actuality bc sometimes they're better suited to manager/supervisor type work (as in they're natural problem solvers and might get restless if their work doesn't challenge them.) - historically they were usually pregnant bc higher fetility so they did intricate, tedious work that didn't require a lot of moving (i.e. making thread [and other crafting materials], sewing clothes, cooking, creating and maintaining social relationships, bookkeeping and inventory [what we have and what we need]) + important to note here: work they did wasn't inferior or less important, just different; social networks need to be maintained and can't be done by betas and alphas that are doing more labor intensive tasks; basic supplies will run out if not being monitored and created or bought by someone; someone has to calculate the numbers to keep a business running smoothly; even just having someone that kept the home organized and looking nice was valuable to your quality of life. in real life, women did this work. + parent's presentation determines children's presentation (alphas = AA; betas = Aa; omegas = aa; punnett square it out) - alpha/alpha (concpetion difficult) = 100% alpha children - alpha/beta = 50% alpha, 50% beta - alpha/omega = 100% beta children - beta/beta = 25% alpha, 50% beta, 25% omega - beta/omega = 50% beta, 50% omega - omega/omega (conception difficult) = 100% omega children - this means that general population trends towards 25% alpha, 50% beta, 25% omega, but betas usually make up slightly higher than 50% (alphas and omegas are typically more fertile than betas, so they typically have more children); when meeting a new character, assume they're a beta until said otherwise. - nottpott drop into 1942 together + theo made the time device; doesn't work like a time turner (ritual involved most likely) + they were already together (kind of; feelings acknowledged at least) in the future after the second war; went back bc harry felt bad for tom (theo wants to save his mom) - harry was a auror (not happy about it tbh), caught theo in the act of making illegal time device and saw an opportunity lol - harry ends up helping make time device and they become friends then yk... a lil something more by the end there + time device deages them a little bit (dark magic requires sacrifice... dark *time* magic? requires a sacrifice of time. lol I'm cooking with this one.) - since they shared the burden (and also used a shit ton of blood) they end up being the ame age as tom physically (this was calculated on their part. + they enroll in Hogwarts as Hadrian Peverell and Theodore Osborne (his mother's maiden name) - going by Peverell is a tactical choice they decided on for Harry; he's already master of death and they're planning to use the Peverell vaults to fund their stay since they won't be able to access the Nott or Potter Vaults without... questions. no one will question him using his own money this way. + which btw, being master of death is a requirement to be Lord Peverell (which harry is, bc age shenanigans) and no one but him can access those vaults unless he says so. - it will also be good bait for tom. - the Peverells are literally descended from Death; the brothers from the story are the sons of death - they both sort Slytherin + this is not the plan and it surprises both of them; the hat doesn't give Harry time to bargan this time. later, he has to admit to Theo that the hat wanted to put him in slytherin the firt time too + Tom immediately tries to endear himself to Harry (trying to use his omegan wiles to appeal to the big dumb alpha type deal) - it kind of absolutely works if not for Theo stepping (alphas genuinely have a hard time saying no to omegas though most don't realize this) - theo: "so you wanted to go back in time bc you think he's hot, huh?" - Tom gains an immediate distaste for Theo bc of his interference - when questioned about how they know each other, they say that they "had the same instructors" while they were homeschooled -excerpt- Fourth year is an important year for Tom. There’s still a lot of work to be done if he wants to become prefect despite Slughorn’s reluctance. Slytherin House is still divided between Orion Black and Abraxas Malfoy. No one is expecting the mudblood omega bitch to snatch the rug from underneath them and come out on top. And for now, that’s exactly what Tom wants. He wants a quiet year with no unexpected moves from anyone so he can finish his plotting unimpeded. That’s what he gets right up until the Sorting. Transfer students are not that unusual these days. With Grindelwald on the continent and Dumbledore, the only wizard capable of beating him, keeping him away from Britain, it’s really a surprise there aren’t more. Most new students are unassuming and uninteresting, the same as the first years. But occasionally, they get someone from a notable family. “Osborne, Theodore!” Both Lestrange and Avery sit up when that name is called. Tom is, frustratingly, out of the loop. “You don’t think it’s the Osbornes from Norway, do you? I thought they didn’t have any sons,” Avery says, eyeing the brown-haired boy curiously. “An Osborne missing the chance to go to Durmstrang? Unlikely. He looks like he might be our year. Maybe the one above? Do you think we’ll get the chance to ask?” Lestrange replies. “SLYTHERIN!” The hat calls out. “I suppose you will,” Tom says. The Osborne boy looks down the Slytherin table and Tom can see the moment he spots the empty seats across from their trio. When he sits down, he only spares them a glance before turning back around to watch the Sorting. “You wouldn’t happen to be from Norway, would you?” Lestrange asks, trying to seem uninterested. Tom cringes at his lack of subtlety, and so, apparently, does Osborne. The boy rolls his eyes briefly, before saying, “I am Heir Ásbjørn, yes.” His voice is soft and impassive. Tom notes that he doesn’t have an accent. Osborne turns back to the Sorting when he’s finished speaking, clearly putting an end to the conversation, but Lestrange isn’t about to let that stop him. Before he gets the chance to ask anything else though, another transfer student is called up to be sorted. “Peverell, Hadrian!” The Great Hall goes silent. The boy that walks up to the hat is short; dark-skinned with unruly black hair and glasses. He sits down as if he doesn’t even notice the eerie quiet that’s descended. The hat is on his head for maybe three seconds before it calls out: “SLYTHERIN!” ~~~ Harry stands and sets the hat aside with a calm he doesn’t feel. And when he can’t possibly stall anymore, he looks over towards the Slytherin table. Theo is staring at him just like everyone else, but instead of the shock or betrayal that Harry had been expecting, he has the same look on his face that he gets when he’s working through a particularly difficult arithmancy problem. He can’t help it; when he sees that he starts grinning like a loony. Harry is already halfway to the table before anyone in Slytherin remembers to clap. He slides onto the bench next to Theo, still smiling. “I’ll explain later.” “I’ll make you,” Theo replies, completely serious. “You know each other?” Harry whips his head up and it’s only then that he realizes that he’s sat directly across from Tom Riddle. “We’re acquainted,” Theo says. Harry turns back to him. “Oh, ‘acquainted’, are we?” “Not when you say it like that.” “How did you become acquainted?” Riddle asks. Harry goes to answer, but Theo cuts him off. “Introductions, obviously. Have you not heard of them?” -end excerpt- - the slytherin dorms + all dorms (not just slytherin) are split into male, female, and omega + the male/female dorms are three to a room with only one alpha in each since they don't share well with each other + female dorms don't allow an alpha and a beta to room alone (as in, there needs to be a third person in the dorm besides them; it's to discourage pregnancy shenanigans) + omega dorms are singles bc of heats (which are about four times a year, so you're gonna have one while at school) + Harry and Theo get roomed with Lestrange - the first week of classes + most classes are fairly easy for Harry and Theo so long as they pay attention (hardest part is not accidentally revealing future discoveries) + they're both above average in all their classes and manage to compete or overtake Tom in their specialties - defense for Harry; charms and runes for Theo + Theo is literally fluent in like three runic languages bc he was heir to an old nordic family (my man comes from viking stock lmao; fucking pirate) + his family is from Norway and his first language is Norwegian + Slughorn is on Harry's ass all week - he keeps asking questions, trying to invite him to events, praising him for literally nothing; Harry is very annoyed with him - this has Harry using the map a lot to avoid him; he keeps surprising people with how fast he gets to class (esp considering that sometimes they see him going the WRONG WAY, but he just knows a shortcut lol) - this also has Tom seething since he's no longer Slughorn's little pet slytherin + meanwhile, Theo is sussing out the slytherin house politics - obviously, Theo and Harry's arrival has shaken things up a bit - everyone is trying to figure them out (it's not going well; Harry is *baffling* and Theo gives *nothing* away) - there's mostly two factions the house is divided into: + those following Abraxas Malfoy (fifth year) + and those following Orion Black (sixth year) + (and the secret third option, which are people who actually answer to Tom but are working in secret so he can take them both out in one fell swoop) - Alphard Black (fourth year) is one of Tom's. They don't associate in public but he's spying on Orion for Tom. Tom is the main reason that Alphard doesn't believe in blood purity or presentation superiority by the time canon comes around.
