the ruse

a story about queerness

I wrote the first chapter in what feels like a dream after I initially came up with the premise. I recently found it again and decided to use it to experiment with my writing. This is a story with very little advanced planning and almost no editing (besides things like grammar and spelling). Let's see the summary:

Jameson Wilder is a writer that lives alone in a townhouse he bought just for himself. His life is simple, easy, and quiet. He writes, he hosts dinners for his friends, and he suffers the constant nagging of his mother to get married. He doesn't need nor want romance in his life, really. It all seems a bit much to him.

Katelyn Victoria Skyler's life, on the other hand, is a disaster. After the devastation of the love her life getting married to a man, she leaves a trail of broken hearts as she tries to find someone she can tolerate marrying herself. But when her latest boyfriend proposes, she brutally turns him down even though he's perfect.

Together, the two of them hatch a plot to fool everyone who so desperately wants them to be normal: get married to each other and live their queer lives in secret.
